Sue Perlmutter

Sue Perlmutter is an intercultural business expert enabling corporations and their teams to enhance their performance and increase cross-border success.  She provides custom strategies for companies and executives to achieve their goals including business development, talent retention and individual and team effectiveness.

Over 20 years of experience has honed her cultural knowledge of key business regions to include the U.K. and Europe, Japan and Pan Asia, and sections of the Middle East and Latin America.  Her list of distinguished clients includes PepsiCo, Corning, GE, UBS, United Technologies, MetLife, Proctor & Gamble, Bristol-Meyers Squibb and Goldman Sachs.

Given the intercultural nature of business relationships today, Perlmutter believes that cross-cultural fluency is as essential to success as technical competence.  With a keen understanding of the cultural differences that can obstruct a business deal or career, she guides her clients around unspoken landmines and in so doing, prepares them for success.  Depending on the client need, Perlmutter advises on the impact of culture in pitching and negotiating business deals, maximizing collaboration among global or multicultural teams, and enhancing business relationships in a new country.

Perlmutter counsels executives all along the career continuum.  She works in one-on-one and group sessions on real-time business transactions and management issues.  These can include practical instruction on cultural risk management, required procedures and behaviors, differences in leadership styles and hierarchies, and ongoing relationship management.

Perlmutter embarked on her career during her six years of working and living in Japan (preceded by over a year in Hong Kong), followed by subsequent client projects there.  She has since developed a thorough knowledge of the corporate environment and cultures of Korea, China, Singapore and Taiwan as key business partners of Japan. She has simultaneously built her expertise in Western and Eastern Europe, sections of the Middle East and Latin America, Australia and New Zealand.  She is fluent in Japanese, proficient in French, and has basic speaking knowledge of Cantonese and Mandarin.

Perlmutter holds a Master of Science in Education from Tufts University and a Master of Science in International Management from Manhattanville College.
